Audacity 4.0.1 update restores multi-track export and fixes bugs

Audacity has released version 4.0.1, the first maintenance update for its 4.0 series. The update introduces several feature restorations and bug fixes for the open-source audio editor.

A key addition is the improved Export Multiple feature, which allows users to export individual tracks or labeled regions into separate files, a functionality previously available in version 3.x. The update also restores several keyboard shortcuts and introduces accessibility enhancements, such as allowing screen readers to announce toast notifications and enabling keyboard navigation for the timeline and vertical track rulers.

Technical fixes address critical issues, including a bug that could cause project corruption after a failed save and problems with non-ASCII characters in file paths. Linux users will see improvements to the AppImage installation process, while Windows users regain access to a portable .7z package. Other corrections include faster clip dragging, improved undo/redo performance, and fixes for VST3 settings and playhead drift.
