Tokyo luxury watch theft suspect returns Audemars Piguet with apology
An Audemars Piguet luxury watch valued at approximately 46 million yen (roughly 260,000 to 292,000 euros) has been returned to a jewelry store in Tokyo's Nakano Broadway shopping complex via courier.
The theft occurred on the evening of October 29, when a man posing as a customer requested to try on the timepiece before fleeing the shop with the watch still on his wrist. Following the incident, the watch was mailed back to the store on November 1 from Aichi Prefecture. The package included a handwritten apology note, though investigators believe the sender's name and address may be false.
Tokyo Metropolitan Police have confirmed the item's identity through its serial number and are continuing to search for the suspect. This incident follows a separate theft at the same commercial complex in August, in which four luxury watches worth 200 million yen were stolen by two individuals who were subsequently arrested.
