Audi A2 e‑tron hits record efficiency as Chinese EVs pressure European market

Audi’s new A2 e‑tron plug‑in hybrid achieves a best‑in‑class consumption of 12.8 kWh per 100 km, thanks to a combination of ultra‑low drag (Cx 0.24), a silicon‑carbide power electronics system, a cell‑to‑pack LFP battery and an 89.6 % wall‑box charging efficiency. The model’s official range varies between 12.8 and 15.6 kWh/100 km depending on equipment and wheel size.

In Spain, Geely’s Starray EM‑i hybrid SUV is gaining traction, registering 907 registrations in July and becoming the second‑best‑selling plug‑in hybrid in the country. Priced at €30,490, it undercuts the Volvo XC60 by roughly €35,000 while offering the same 86 km electric range. The Starray delivers 262 hp and 0‑100 km/h in 8 seconds, positioning it as a low‑cost alternative to premium European models.

Both stories illustrate how Chinese manufacturers are leveraging cost and efficiency advantages to challenge established European brands in the rapidly evolving electric‑vehicle market.
