Audi A3 reaches 6 million production milestone
Audi has announced that its A3 model has reached a production milestone of over 6 million units since its debut. First introduced at the 1996 Paris Motor Show, the premium compact model has spanned four generations and has been sold in more than 100 countries.
Production of the vehicle has taken place in Germany, Brazil, and Hungary. The model line has evolved from its original three-door hatchback form to include various body styles such as sedan, Sportback, Cabriolet, and crossover options. Key technological milestones include the introduction of the quattro all-wheel-drive system in 1998, the launch of the high-performance S3 in 1999, and the integration of the Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform with the third generation.
The A3 lineage also marked Audi’s expansion into electrification with the introduction of the A3 Sportback e-tron, a plug-in hybrid model. In France alone, approximately 300,000 units of the A3 have been sold since its launch.
