Audi advances electric performance and EREV technology
Audi is advancing its electric and hybrid vehicle capabilities through both high-performance production models and new technical patents. The 2026 Audi RS e-tron GT is positioned as the brand’s most powerful series-production vehicle, featuring dual electric motors that deliver 912 horsepower. This four-door electric supercar can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds and offers an estimated EPA range of 278 miles.
In addition to its performance models, Audi has filed a patent for a complex Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) system designed to evolve its quattro all-wheel-drive technology. Unlike conventional EREVs that use a combustion engine to power a dedicated generator, Audi’s proposed system uses a clutch mechanism to connect the internal combustion engine directly to a second electric motor. This allows the system to switch between battery-only operation and a mode where the combustion engine assists the electric motor to drive the wheels when battery levels are low.
