Audi announces A2 e-tron comeback alongside new tire and caravan innovations
The automotive industry is seeing significant technological developments, including Audi's revival of the A2 model. The new Audi A2 e-tron, expected to debut this autumn, features a drag coefficient of 0.24 achieved through aerodynamic enhancements such as covered control arms and aero wheels. Prototyping indicates an efficiency of approximately 11.5 kWh per 100 kilometers.
In tire technology, Nokian Tyres has introduced the Hakkapeliitta 01, which utilizes an Adaptive Base Compound. This allows studs to automatically adjust based on temperature: the rubber stiffens in the cold to secure studs for ice grip, while softening above freezing to allow studs to sink deeper for improved traction. The company reports the tire offers up to 10% better ice grip and 30% less road wear compared to previous models.
Additionally, premium plug-in hybrid performance is being evaluated, specifically comparing models like the Audi A6 Avant and BMW 5 Series. In the leisure sector, the French company Beauer has developed an expandable caravan that uses electrical mechanisms to quadruple its living space in approximately one minute.
