Audi appoints Thomas Fuhr as CEO of Formula 1 engine division
Audi has appointed Thomas Fuhr as the new CEO of Audi Formula Racing GmbH, effective November 1. Based in Neuburg, Germany, this division is responsible for the development and manufacturing of the power units for Audi’s Formula 1 project.
Fuhr brings over 30 years of international engineering and leadership experience to the role. Notably, he served as Managing Director of Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains from 2009 to 2012. His recent career includes senior management positions at GROHE, LIXIL, and Georg Fischer Building Flow Solutions.
The appointment aims to restructure Audi’s F1 leadership to optimize performance. By placing Fuhr at the head of the Neuburg facility, Chief Technology Officer Stefan Dreyer can focus exclusively on the technical development of the power unit, while Christian Foyer continues as Chief Operating Officer overseeing daily site operations. Mattia Binotto, CEO and Team Principal of the Audi F1 team, stated that Fuhr’s understanding of both technical challenges and high-performance team leadership will be vital to making Audi a top F1 manufacturer.
