Audi begins production of A2 e-tron in Ingolstadt

Audi has officially commenced production of the new A2 e-tron compact electric vehicle at its Ingolstadt plant in Germany. The company reported a significant industrial milestone, having reduced the time between the start of development and the beginning of assembly by 21 months compared to previous projects.

This increased efficiency was achieved through several strategic shifts, including the integration of artificial intelligence and virtual assistants to support production line operators. Audi also implemented a “linked production” principle, where customer order sequences are fixed six days before assembly to allow suppliers to deliver parts in the exact order of installation, minimizing intermediate storage needs.

The A2 e-tron utilizes the Volkswagen Group’s MEB modular platform and shares assembly lines with the Audi A3, allowing the manufacturer to reuse over 1,200 existing components and approximately 250 robots. The vehicle will be offered with battery capacities of 52, 61, and 84 kWh, providing a maximum WLTP range of up to 645 km.

CEO Gernot Döllner stated that the A2 e-tron represents the company’s next step in renewal, aiming to make electric mobility viable for daily use while strengthening industrial competitiveness in Germany.
