Audi celebrates 30 years of the A3 premium compact model
Audi is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Audi A3, a model credited with establishing the premium compact segment. Since its world premiere at the 1996 Paris Motor Show, the vehicle has seen more than six million units produced and has been delivered to over 100 countries.
Over four generations, the A3 has evolved through various technological milestones. The first generation (8L) debuted as a three-door hatchback, later adding the quattro all-wheel-drive system and the sporty S3 variant. The second generation (8P) introduced increased dimensions and the Singleframe grille. The third generation (8V) utilized the MQB modular platform and introduced plug-in hybrid technology with the A3 e-tron.
The current fourth generation (8Y) features digitalized interiors and mild-hybrid technology, with the lineup recently expanding to include the A3 allstreet crossover-inspired variant.
