Audi CEO notes high-end customers prefer internal combustion engines

Audi CEO Gernot Döllner has observed a divergence in consumer preferences based on vehicle segments. According to Döllner, customers purchasing high-end, expensive models show a strong preference for internal combustion engines, whereas electric vehicle adoption is more prevalent in lower-priced segments.

This trend has influenced Audi’s product strategy. While the company previously aimed for a full transition to electric vehicles by 2032, it is now maintaining internal combustion options for certain models. For instance, the upcoming Nuvolari is expected to feature a V8 engine, utilizing Lamborghini Temerario architecture. Conversely, the upcoming A2 compact model will be entirely electric, and the future flagship Concept C is slated to be a purely electric vehicle.

To meet emissions regulations, Audi is also integrating plug-in hybrid technology into its V6 engines, such as those found in the updated RS5 and RS6 models.
