Audi confirms Hülkenberg and Bortoleto for 2027 F1 season

Audi has confirmed its Formula 1 driver lineup for the 2027 season, retaining Nico Hülkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto. Team principal Mattia Binotto announced the decision in Baku, noting that both drivers were already under contract and that the team is satisfied with their performances.

Binotto praised Hülkenberg for his consistency and ability to secure points, while describing Bortoleto as an evolving talent who shows increasing confidence and strength in qualifying sessions. The decision effectively limits immediate opportunities for Audi academy driver Freddie Slater, who will move to Formula 2, though Binotto suggested Slater could take on more F1 responsibilities in the future depending on his development.

In recent practice sessions, Audi debuted a significant aero package featuring 14 updated elements. During the third practice in Baku, Bortoleto finished in 13th position and Hülkenberg in 15th.
