Audi crashes into railway tracks following police chase in Bad Lausick
A high-speed police chase in the Lauterbach district of Bad Lausick ended in a severe accident early Thursday morning. The incident began when police in Kitzschau noticed an Audi with license plates that did not match the vehicle. When officers attempted to conduct a check, the driver ignored signals and fled.
The pursuit ended when the driver attempted to bypass a barrier at a former bridge crossing over the Leipzig–Bad Lausick railway line. The vehicle broke through a fence and plunged approximately five meters into the track bed, where it overturned and landed on its roof.
Three occupants were injured and transported to local hospitals for treatment. During the subsequent investigation, police recovered a softair weapon and various tools from inside the vehicle. The accident caused a full closure of the railway line between Lauterbach and Bad Lausick to facilitate recovery efforts using a Deutsche Bahn crane.
