Audi F1 Director Allan McNish recalls lessons from Ayrton Senna

Audi Formula 1 Racing Director Allan McNish has reflected on the professional lessons learned from working with Ayrton Senna early in his career. McNish, a former endurance racing driver, recalled testing for McLaren in 1989 and observing Senna’s meticulous approach to technical details, such as engine friction.

McNish, who was elevated to his current leadership role following the departure of Jonathan Wheatley in March, emphasized that success in racing requires a rigorous work ethic and intense attention to detail beyond mere talent.

His career includes a Formula 1 debut with Toyota in 2002 and multiple victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, including wins with Porsche in 1998 and with Audi in 2008 and 2013. Before joining the Audi F1 project, he also served as the team principal for Audi’s Formula E program.
