Audi F1 drivers cite power loss in extreme heat as major limitation
Audi Formula 1 drivers Nico Hülkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto have identified pure engine power loss in extreme heat as the team’s primary limitation. Despite the Marina Bay Street Circuit in Singapore typically favoring teams where power is less decisive, the drivers noted that high temperatures are negatively impacting their power unit performance.
Following similar issues experienced in Malaysia, the FIA has issued a ‘heat hazard declaration’ for the Singapore Grand Prix, with temperatures expected to exceed 31 degrees Celsius. Hülkenberg clarified that the issue is not related to aerodynamic losses caused by cooling requirements, but rather a direct loss of power under these climatic conditions. Bortoleto echoed this sentiment, stating that power loss has been their greatest constraint during recent races.
