Audi splits China operations between FAW and SAIC
Audi has officially implemented a dual-brand strategy in China, dividing its operations between two joint venture partners: FAW Group and SAIC Motor. Under the newly signed strategic agreements, the traditional four-ring Audi brand will be managed by FAW, focusing on a mix of luxury internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and new energy vehicles (NEVs).
SAIC Motor will focus exclusively on the AUDI brand, which utilizes the brand name in Latin letters without the four-ring logo. This brand will concentrate on the next generation of intelligent, connected electric vehicles. To ensure a smooth transition, SAIC Audi is permitted to continue selling four-ring Audi products until the end of 2027, and after-sales services for both brand identities will remain operational.
This restructuring aims to address market segmentation and the rapid evolution of consumer needs in China. While FAW leverages its established luxury foundation, SAIC will utilize a new Audi Innovation Technology Center in Shanghai to develop smart electric models tailored to the local market.
