Audi takes legal action against parallel import of Chinese models

Audi AG has initiated legal action against the importer Auto China to prevent the parallel import of electric vehicle models produced exclusively for the Chinese market. The dispute centers on the AUDI E5 Sportback and AUDI E7X, which were developed in collaboration with SAIC.

Unlike standard Audi models, these vehicles use a specific brand identity featuring the word ‘AUDI’ in capital letters rather than the traditional four-ring logo. Because they are designed specifically for Chinese consumer requirements, they lack official EU type approval.

Audi has warned that these models are considered foreign products outside of China, meaning the official service network and authorized dealers cannot perform maintenance, software updates, or provide spare parts. While Auto China claimed it could provide registration and warranty support, the importer has reportedly removed the models from its website following the legal proceedings.
