Audi to Reintroduce Physical Buttons in Next‑Generation Vehicle Interiors

Audi announced that its upcoming vehicle interiors will shift away from the current trend of dominant large touchscreens. The company plans to restore tactile controls such as buttons and knobs, combined with higher‑quality materials, to improve driver focus and usability.

Technical director Lu Wen Moer said the new “Radical Next” cabin design will integrate screens more discreetly while retaining classic Audi physical controls, reflecting the preferences of buyers in Europe, North America and Australia. The change will be introduced gradually; models like the new Q7 and future Q9 will continue with the existing layout before the revised approach appears in later releases.

Audi’s move is intended to balance modern digital technology with traditional, intuitive operation for functions such as climate, volume and driver‑assist settings.
