Audi unveils Nuvolari supercar, 987‑hp plug‑in hybrid limited to 499 units

Audi has introduced the Nuvolari, a limited‑production supercar that combines a twin‑turbo 4.0‑litre V8 engine with three axial‑flux electric motors and a 7.3 kWh lithium‑ion battery, delivering a total output of 987 hp (736 kW). The vehicle accelerates from 0‑100 km/h in 2.6 seconds and is capable of a top speed exceeding 350 km/h (over 217 mph). Production is capped at 499 examples, all left‑hand‑drive, with orders opening in the fourth quarter of 2026 for the European market and deliveries scheduled for early 2027. Pricing starts around $685,000 in North America. Test footage filmed at the Nardò proving ground in Italy shows the car’s active rear wing operating in three modes. Audi chief technical officer Rouven Mohr emphasized that the Nuvolari is a technological flagship rather than a direct successor to the discontinued R8, showcasing the brand’s latest hybrid, aerodynamic and chassis innovations.
