Audi unveils Q9 and SQ9 luxury SUVs
Audi has officially unveiled the Q9 and SQ9, the largest and most luxurious SUVs in the company's history. Measuring 5.3 meters in length, the Q9 features a 2.9-liter V6 engine producing 429 horsepower, while the high-performance SQ9 variant is equipped with a 4.0-liter biturbo V8 engine delivering 591 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque. The SQ9 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds.
Technological highlights include Digital Matrix LED headlights and third-generation OLED digital taillights. The vehicle also features advanced lighting systems that can project turn signals onto the asphalt to increase visibility for pedestrians and cyclists.
During the development process, Audi made a significant design pivot regarding the door handles. Originally designed with touch-activated electric handles, Audi CEO Gernot Döllner decided to revert to conventional mechanical handles after personal testing revealed the electronic version was less intuitive for users. Despite the late stage of development, engineers successfully implemented the change to prioritize functionality and user experience.
