Audiencia Nacional suspends Airbus labor referendum
The Audiencia Nacional has provisionally suspended a referendum scheduled for September 24 and 25 at Airbus Spain. The vote was intended to allow employees to decide on a labor agreement proposed by the company to end an ongoing industrial dispute.
The suspension follows a request for precautionary measures by the CGT union. CGT, along with ÚTIL and UGT, had previously organized an indefinite strike. The union filed a lawsuit alleging that the company violated the fundamental right to strike and engaged in bad faith negotiations by pursuing a deal with other unions (CCOO, SIPA, and ATP) without the involvement of the full strike committee.
The proposed agreement includes wage increases tied to the Consumer Price Index (IPC) and a gradual recovery of purchasing power of 7.95% distributed through 2029. It also aims to maintain current teleworking arrangements. While Airbus describes the proposal as a balanced solution to improve working conditions, the strike committee is demanding higher increases and a larger one-time payment.
A judicial hearing to determine whether the referendum violates labor rights is expected to take place on September 24.
