Audiencia Nacional warns of IT failures amid Ceuta migration crisis
The migration crisis in Ceuta has highlighted persistent IT failures within Spain’s Audiencia Nacional. In a meeting held on September 28, the court's Governing Chamber approved a plan to reinforce magistrates in the Administrative Litigation Chamber. This reinforcement is intended to handle the expected influx of legal appeals from migrants following potential decisions by the Ministry of the Interior regarding their residency.
Beyond the need for more judges, the Governing Chamber warned that IT systems and centralized digital signatures cannot continue to fail recurrently. The court emphasized the need for immediate, effective response systems and qualified technical personnel on-site. Magistrates expressed frustration over the lack of backup equipment, noting that replacing broken computers can currently take weeks or even months, a situation they stated is unsustainable for the upcoming months.
