Audio-Technica launches ATH-AL5NC wireless open-back headphones
Audio-Technica has announced the launch of the ATH-AL5NC, the company’s first wireless open-back headphones. Designed to provide a natural soundstage while maintaining the convenience of Bluetooth connectivity, the headphones feature 53mm drivers and support high-resolution audio via the LDAC codec, as well as AAC and SBC.
Despite the open-back design, which typically allows sound to leak and lacks total isolation, the ATH-AL5NC includes active noise reduction capabilities. This feature is intended to mitigate background hums, such as air conditioning or traffic, without the intense pressure often felt with closed-back noise-canceling models. The device also includes a “sound leakage reduction mode” for use in shared environments.
Key technical specifications include: - Battery life: Up to 75 hours in wireless mode, or approximately 50 hours with noise reduction active. A 15-minute charge provides roughly five to eight hours of playback. - Connectivity: Bluetooth multipoint allows connection to two devices simultaneously, and a 1.2m cable is included for wired use. - Weight and Comfort: The headphones weigh 240g and utilize a low-clamping-pressure design to reduce heat buildup and ear fatigue. - Software: The A-T Connect app offers customization for EQ, low-latency modes for gaming, and various soundscape settings.
