Auditorio de Tenerife acquires three new Steinway & Sons pianos
The Auditorio de Tenerife has expanded its musical equipment by acquiring three new Steinway & Sons pianos. This addition brings the institution's total to five Steinway & Sons instruments, making it the only institution in the Canary Islands to possess this number and quality of high-level instruments.
The new acquisitions include two Type D 274 grand pianos and one Type C 227 ¾ grand piano, which were shipped directly from the Steinway & Sons factory in Hamburg, Germany. The two larger pianos are intended for major piano recitals and symphonic soloists, while the smaller model will be used for jazz concerts or accompaniment roles requiring less power.
The procurement process took two years and involved detailed assessments by Canarian pianists Gustavo Díaz-Jerez and Luis López, who traveled to the factory to ensure the instruments met the specific acoustic needs of the venue's halls. José Carlos Acha, the Counselor of Culture, Museums, and Sports, noted that the investment was necessary as the previous instruments had been in use for over 20 years.
