Auditorio de Tenerife production of Yerma named International Opera Awards finalist

The production of the opera ‘Yerma’ by the Auditorio de Tenerife has been named a finalist for the International Opera Awards in the ‘Rediscovered Work’ category. Directed by Paco Azorín, the production features a score by Heitor Villa-Lobos based on the work by Federico García Lorca.

The production utilized a new critical edition of the score revised by Luiz Fernando Malheiro, marking an absolute premiere in Europe following its October 2025 debut in Tenerife. The production has previously received two Talía Awards from the Spanish Academy of Performing Arts for best lyrical spectacle and best costume.

The awards ceremony will take place on November 21 at the Musiktheater an der Wien in Austria. This production was a collaboration involving the Amazonas Opera Festival in Manaus, Brazil.
