Auditorio de Tenerife to host performance on Canarian identity

The Auditorio de Tenerife will host the performance ‘La importancia de llamarse Candelaria’ on September 20 at La Salita. Created by Acerina Amador and Fernando López, the piece explores Canarian identity, colonial memory, and cultural resistance through a combination of contemporary dance, live music, and critical thought.

The work serves as the second chapter of a scenic triptych focused on forgotten memories and cultural recovery. It uses the syncretism surrounding the Virgin of Candelaria as a starting point to examine historical processes of cultural imposition and the ways communities preserve their roots through traditions, rituals, and folklore. The production connects historical dimensions with personal experience, blending contemporary corporal language with traditional rhythms and melodies.
