Audix launches DP7X drum microphone package with switchable D6X kick mic

Audix has introduced the DP7X, a professional drum‑mic package that updates its long‑running DP7 kit. The centerpiece is the new D6X dynamic kick drum microphone, which replaces the original D6 and features Audix’s Very Low Mass (VLM) diaphragm capable of handling sound pressure levels up to 144 dB SPL. A recessed, tool‑free switch offers three selectable low‑end response settings – Deep, Balanced and Natural – allowing engineers to tailor the kick’s character in seconds.

The rest of the DP7X kit covers a standard five‑piece kit: the i5 dynamic snare mic, a pair of D2 hyper‑cardioid rack‑tom mics, a D4 floor‑tom mic reaching down to 40 Hz, and a matched pair of ADX51 overhead condensers with 14 mm gold‑sputtered diaphragms. The package includes mounting hardware such as DVICE rim‑mount clamps, DCLIP mic clips, an MC1 nylon clip and WS81C windscreens. The microphones are designed, machined and assembled in the United States, with Australian distribution handled by PAVT. “The addition of the flagship D6X introduces a level of low‑end versatility never before seen in a pre‑configured package,” said Steve Young, Audix’s director of sales.
