Audrey Niffenegger releases dystopian sequel Life Out of Order

Audrey Niffenegger Life Out of Order The Time Traveler’s Wife dystopian fiction book sequel

Author Audrey Niffenegger has released Life Out of Order, a dystopian sequel to her 2003 bestseller The Time Traveler’s Wife. The project developed over 14 years, beginning as a small addition for an e-book release before expanding into a full novel.

Set in a fractured Chicago, the story follows Alba, the daughter of the original novel’s protagonists, Henry and Clare. Alba lives in a world shaped by climate change, political instability, and technological advancement. She also possesses the Chrono-Displacement Disorder, a genetic condition causing involuntary time travel. The narrative involves Alba and her activist friends navigating a society under curfew while attempting to confront neo-Nazi groups.
