Audrey Werro nears 800m world record in Zurich

Swiss middle-distance runner Audrey Werro has moved significantly closer to the women’s 800-meter world record during the Zurich Diamond League. Clocking a time of 1:53.70, Werro secured victory at the Letzigrund Stadium, marking the third-fastest time in history and a new meet and national record.

The performance places her just 0.58 seconds behind the long-standing world record of 1:53.28 set by Jarmila Kratochvílová in 1983. Werro, the 22-year-old European champion, has now recorded four of the top 10 all-time fastest times this season.

In the same race, Netherlands’ Femke Broeders-Bol finished second, setting a new Dutch national record with a time of 1:54.71. The event highlighted the rising dominance of Werro, who has consistently improved her personal bests throughout the 2026 season.
