Augsburg Asylum Centre Double Homicide Suspect Detained

Police in Augsburg have opened a homicide investigation after two residents of an asylum seeker accommodation were found dead in a waste container. The victims were a 54‑year‑old Iraqi man and a 39‑year‑old Syrian man who lived in the Haunstetten facility. A 29‑year‑old suspect identified as Mohamad K. was arrested in Munich the day after the killings and is being held in pre‑trial detention.

The Augsburg criminal police have formed a dedicated investigative team called “Babylon” to examine the case. The asylum centre has been temporarily closed and the remaining residents have been moved to other locations. Investigators are searching the building and its surroundings with the aid of police dogs, but have not disclosed any motive or details about the weapon used. The police continue to gather evidence while the investigation remains ongoing.
