Augsburg-Donauwörth railway expansion project faces delays
Plans to expand the railway line between Augsburg and Donauwörth, passing through Meitingen, have faced significant delays. The €488 million project was halted approximately one year ago by the federal government and Deutsche Bahn.
Local officials, including Meitingen Mayor Michael Higl, have expressed frustration over the stagnation. While Deutsche Bahn acknowledges the route is a bottleneck and maintains its commitment to the project, the company is currently waiting for passenger and freight traffic forecasts for the year 2040. Deutsche Bahn indicated that a potential decrease in freight traffic on this route may influence future decisions regarding the expansion.
