August Wöginger re-elected as ÖAAB chairman with 95.9% vote

August Wöginger has been re-elected as the chairman of the Austrian Workers' and Employees' Association (ÖAAB) with 95.9 percent of the delegate votes. The election took place during the organization's 29th federal congress in Haag, Lower Austria.

Wöginger, who has led the ÖAAB since 2016, maintained strong support within the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) despite a recent first-instance conviction for instigating abuse of office related to the Braunau tax office case. While he stepped down as the ÖVP parliamentary group leader following the conviction, he retained his roles as ÖAAB chairman and social spokesperson.

During his speech, Wöginger criticized the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ), specifically targeting their alleged connections to Identitarian groups and the use of historical terminology. He emphasized the ÖAAB's focus on performance, social security, and social cohesion. The event was attended by several government officials, including Interior Minister Gerhard Karner and Minister Claudia Bauer.
