Augusta road work expected to cause traffic delays on first day of school

The Augusta School Department has issued a notice regarding potential traffic delays for the first day of school on Monday, August 31st. Ongoing road construction throughout the city is expected to impact travel patterns, particularly near the Cony High School and CATC complex.

Specific construction projects include paving on Cony Road (Route 105/South Belfast Avenue) and the Cony Road Extension. These works may involve one-way traffic, flaggers, and temporary traffic signal shutoffs. Additionally, construction on Bangor Street is expected to contribute to delays during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal periods.

City officials are coordinating construction with school bus schedules, though school officials noted that traffic conditions could still cause shifts in timing. Motorists are advised to allow extra time, follow directions from flaggers, and exercise caution around increased pedestrian and school bus traffic.
