AS Saint-Étienne secures victory over Red Star to extend Ligue 2 lead

AS Saint-Étienne strengthened their position at the top of Ligue 2 with a 1-0 away victory against Red Star. The decisive goal was scored by Irvin Cardona in the 13th minute following an assist from Jakob Breum.

Despite the win, the match was marked by injury concerns for Saint-Étienne captain Julien Le Cardinal, who was substituted as a precaution after receiving a blow to his knee. Le Cardinal expressed frustration following the game, calling for stricter officiating regarding dangerous contacts that risk aggravating player injuries.

The victory extends Saint-Étienne’s lead at the top of the table to five points ahead of Red Star. The club's performance comes amid broader discussions regarding their squad value, with a CIES study estimating a net positive valuation of 50 million euros for players recruited over the last five years.
