Augusto Boal classic ‘Revolução na América do Sul’ to debut at Teatro Poeirinha
The play ‘Revolução na América do Sul’, a classic work by Augusto Boal, is set to begin a new season at Teatro Poeirinha starting September 8, 2026. Directed by Wellington Fagner, this production reinterprets Boal’s text for a contemporary context.
Following a period of online performances during the pandemic and subsequent tours through Rio de Janeiro and Portugal, the production will run at the theater until October 21, 2026. The project is realized by the Instituto Augusto Boal, led by Cecília Boal, to preserve and disseminate the playwright's legacy.
Originally one of the first Brazilian plays to center the working class through the lens of class struggle, the story follows the journey of a worker named José da Silva. The play uses political satire to examine the oppressive mechanisms of the social system.
