Augusto Cury campaigns as third-way presidential candidate
Presidential candidate Augusto Cury (Avante) is positioning himself as a ‘third way’ alternative to the political polarization between Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Flávio Bolsonaro. During campaign stops in Cuiabá and Manaus, Cury criticized both major political figures, stating he has ‘zero chance’ of aligning with either in a potential second round. He attacked Flávio Bolsonaro’s lack of practical experience in agriculture and business, and criticized Lula’s economic model for ‘asphyxiating’ the country.
In Manaus, Cury addressed environmental concerns, proposing the use of advanced technology to combat deforestation and promote reforestation in the Amazon. He also highlighted his personal investments in reforestation as a model for future policy. In Cuiabá, he faced political isolation as local party leaders, including Antônio Galvan, did not support his agenda, leading Cury to claim that allies simply do not yet understand his proposals.
Recent Datafolha polling indicates that 50% of Cury’s declared voters are still undecided about their choice. Cury continues to advocate for a political era focused on the ‘Brazilian society’ rather than the influence of established political families.
