Augusto Cury votes in São Paulo and criticizes Supreme Court

During the first round of the 2026 Brazilian elections, several candidates cast their votes while addressing the country's political climate. Presidential candidate Augusto Cury (Avante) voted in Colina, São Paulo, where he criticized the Supreme Federal Court (STF) for what he described as excessive protagonism that leaves democracy “asphyxiated.” Cury also expressed disappointment with national institutions, at one point considering a legal injunction to delay the elections following the cancellation of a televised debate.

Cury advocated for a semi-presidential system to address issues with the current model and stated he would not support major opponents Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva or Flávio Bolsonaro in a second round.

Other candidates also participated in the voting process. Fábio Trad (PT) expressed confidence in reaching a second round for the governorship of Mato Grosso do Sul, while Cristina Graeml (PSD) cast her vote for the Senate in Paraná, criticizing the influence of opinion polls on public perception.
