Augusto Cury faces scrutiny over USP professor claims

Presidential candidate Augusto Cury (Avante) is facing scrutiny regarding his academic credentials. Reports indicate that Cury’s official website and government plan submitted to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) describe him as a postgraduate professor at the University of São Paulo (USP).

However, USP has clarified that Cury is not a permanent or tenured professor. The university stated that he served as a guest professor for a specific course, ‘Gestão da Emoção na Formação de Professor Universitário’, within the Faculty of Dentistry of Ribeirão Preto between 2020 and 2022, and currently holds no formal link with the institution.

The Associação Paulista de Imprensa issued a note of repudiation regarding news coverage of the matter, accusing publications of harming the candidate's image and labeling certain reports as ‘fake news’.
