Augusto Cury proposes STF reforms and semipresidentialism

Augusto Cury, the presidential candidate for Avante, has outlined several key policy proposals and structural reforms for Brazil. During recent interviews and debates, Cury advocated for a transition from a presidential system to a semipresidential one, suggesting that a prime minister should handle daily administration while the president focuses on strategic roles, such as foreign policy and the armed forces. He specifically mentioned Tarcísio de Freitas as a potential candidate for the prime minister role.

Regarding the judiciary, Cury proposed significant changes to the Supreme Federal Court (STF). He suggested ending life tenure for ministers and implementing fixed eight-year terms. He also expressed a commitment to increasing female representation in the court, stating he would appoint at least two women to the STF if elected.

In the economic and social spheres, Cury proposed high taxes on sports betting companies to mitigate social dependency and suggested the creation of an Entrepreneur Bank to address the impacts of artificial intelligence. His political positioning has been described as having a liberal economic perspective aligned with the center-right, while maintaining social concerns regarding mental health and public policy that align with the center-left.

Additionally, Cury's campaign recently underwent a strategic shift, replacing its political marketing leadership with Sérgio Lima just before the start of free electoral advertising on radio and television.
