Augusto Cury proposes political transition and national pacification

Augusto Cury, a psychiatrist and presidential candidate for the Avante party, has shared personal reflections on his life and political ambitions during his visit to the 28th International Book Biennial in São Paulo.

In his literary works, Cury describes a youth marked by parties and a lack of interest in academics before transitioning into medicine through intense study. He has also expressed long-standing resentment toward academic elites who rejected his research on consciousness, a theme he explores in his fiction. His writings cover diverse topics, including a pentalogy on Jesus Christ and critiques of both communism and capitalism.

Regarding his political platform, Cury stated that he does not seek a lifelong political career but rather aims to serve as a “transition” to a new national model. He noted a significant sense of discouragement among voters due to what he described as an “epidemic of corruption” and a political system dominated by specific families and ego. Cury proposed a “national pacification project” that would involve gathering specialists, business managers, and politicians without histories of corruption.
