Auki agriculture building construction passes halfway mark

Construction of a new SBD17.9 million double-story agriculture office building in Auki, Malaita Province, has passed the halfway mark. The project is being implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock in partnership with the World Bank through the Solomon Islands Agriculture Rural Transformation (SIART) Project.

As of late August 2026, the project is in its seventh month of a 12-month construction timeframe. Key milestones achieved include the completion of the foundation footing, the first-floor slab, and the beams for the second-floor roofing. Workers have begun preparations for roofing, including column and beam casing and external wall block work.

Project officials reported that the contractor, JQY Construction, is complying with the Contractor’s Environmental and Social Management Plan (CESMP). This plan ensures the project meets mandatory environmental, social, health, and safety requirements for World Bank-funded initiatives. Once completed, the facility is intended to strengthen agricultural services and improve service delivery within Malaita and the wider Solomon Islands.
