AUR party seeks suspension of Romanian President Nicușor Dan
The AUR party, led by George Simion, has launched a political campaign to suspend Romanian President Nicușor Dan. To support this move, the party established the website suspeND.ro, which outlines what it describes as constitutional justifications for the suspension.
Dan Dungaciu, AUR's first vice-president, has criticized state institutions for a lack of accountability during what he describes as a severe political crisis. He noted that Romania has lacked a full-power government for three months and is facing various challenges, including energy and sovereignty issues. Dungaciu argued that the current situation requires decisive political action rather than technical solutions.
Critics have pointed out that the justifications provided by AUR on their website mirror Russian propaganda narratives. Specifically, the party's documentation alleges that President Dan failed in his constitutional role by not responding to unauthorized military operations by Ukraine on Romanian territory, a claim that observers say shifts blame away from Russian aggression and toward Ukraine.
