Aurelina Medeiros barred from Roraima state deputy seat by TSE

The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) has unanimously rejected the candidacy registration of Aurelina Medeiros, a state deputy re-elected for Roraima in the 2026 elections. The decision prevents her from beginning what would have been her eighth consecutive term.

The ruling stems from her ineligibility due to a conviction for willful administrative misconduct. The TSE overturned a previous decision by the Roraima Regional Electoral Court (TRE-RR), which had initially allowed her candidacy.

The court found that a July 2025 ruling by the Federal Regional Court of the 1st Region (TRF-1) confirmed Medeiros participated in and financially benefited from a public fund embezzlement scheme known as the ‘Escândalo dos Gafanhotos’. The court concluded the case met the legal requirements for ineligibility by demonstrating both illicit enrichment and damage to public funds.
