Aurelio De Laurentiis discusses Napoli management and football evolution
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis discussed his management philosophy and the future of football during an event at the TEHA Club in Rome. He emphasized that while fan passion is vital, it cannot sustain a club's finances, build training centers, or purchase players without strategic economic management and organizational structure.
De Laurentiis, who took over Napoli in 2006 when the club was facing bankruptcy, noted that his background in cinema helped him manage investments and assemble diverse professional teams. He credited this business-oriented approach to the club's rise from Serie C to winning two Serie A titles.
Addressing the evolution of the sport, De Laurentiis proposed rethinking the football product to better engage younger audiences. He suggested shortening or even eliminating the 15-minute halftime interval to prevent viewers from switching to digital platforms like YouTube or TikTok during breaks, arguing that football must adapt to the digital habits of modern fans to remain competitive.
