Aurelio Legnani celebrates 100 years in Saronno
Aurelio Legnani, a former partisan known by the battle name ‘Gatto’, is celebrating his 100th birthday in Saronno. Born on September 3, 1926, Legnani became active in the Resistance between 1943 and 1945. His involvement began with the clandestine distribution of leaflets in local factories before he joined the 183ª Brigata Garibaldi, specifically the V Detachment of Saronno.
Following the war, Legnani dedicated himself to preserving the memory of the Resistance by meeting with students and citizens. A ceremony was held at the Casa del Partigiano, an institution he helped found in the post-war period. During the celebration, Saronno Mayor Ilaria Pagani presented him with a traditional municipal parchment, honoring him as a ‘testimony of courage and freedom.’ The event was attended by family members, local authorities, and representatives from ANPI.
