Aurich: Electric vehicle battery fire requires specialized suppression

An electric vehicle caught fire on a residential property in the Aurich district, specifically in the Jägerstraße area. The owner received emergency warnings via a smartphone app before smoke was observed emanating from the vehicle's underbody.

Fire departments from Plaggenburg and Sandhorst responded to the scene. Firefighters faced significant challenges due to the nature of high-voltage battery fires, as the battery repeatedly reignited despite continuous cooling efforts. To manage the situation, crews used a water shield under the vehicle and deployed light masts for the nighttime operation.

A specialized towing company arrived with a dedicated fire suppression container for electric vehicles. The car was lifted into a water-filled container to ensure permanent cooling of the battery. Authorities decided to leave the container on the property for at least ten days to prevent any potential re-ignition.
