Alpha Aurigids meteor shower to peak late August

The Alpha Aurigids meteor shower is expected to peak on the night of August 31 to September 1, 2026. The shower will remain active until September 5.

This micrometeor shower is caused by Earth passing through the debris trail of Comet C/1911 N1 (Kiess), a long-period comet with a 2,000-year orbit originating from the Oort Cloud. While smaller in scale than the Perseids, the Aurigid meteors are noted for being among the fastest in the night sky.
