Aurora Innovation launches second‑gen driverless trucks on US‑Mexico routes
Aurora Innovation has secured Value Truck as its first customer for the second‑generation Aurora Driver, deploying driverless trucks on two long‑haul corridors – Dallas to Laredo and Fort Worth to Phoenix. The service will carry heavy industrial equipment, retail goods and perishables, offering capacity that bypasses human drivers’ hours‑of‑service limits on congested border corridors.
Paccar, the parent of Kenworth and Peterbilt, said it will keep drivers in its autonomous trucks for now, even as Aurora’s driverless Peterbilt units operate without a cab‑staff. Paccar CEO Preston Feight highlighted continued partnership with Aurora and other developers, noting that Aurora plans to sell autonomous trucks commercially in 2027. The developments underline growing commercial interest in driverless freight despite ongoing industry caution.
