Ausar Thompson signs $155 million extension with Detroit Pistons

The Detroit Pistons have secured forward Ausar Thompson with a five-year, $155 million rookie scale extension. Thompson, a 23-year-old defensive specialist, joins his brother Amen Thompson as one of the first brothers to each earn $100 million NBA deals.

Thompson’s recent performance includes being named to the NBA First Team All-Defense and finishing third in Defensive Player of the Year voting. He led the league in steals per game last season and has established himself as a premier perimeter defender.

The extension provides the Pistons with financial flexibility as they continue negotiations with center Jalen Duren. While the team has reportedly offered Duren a deal in the $190 million range, a stalemate remains as Duren is seeking an average annual salary exceeding $40 million. Analysts suggest that securing both Thompson and Duren could allow the Pistons to maintain a competitive core while keeping their combined salary significantly lower than the league's maximum salary slots.
