AusNet begins final construction of Corryong microgrid
AusNet has entered the final construction phase of the Corryong Islandable Microgrid in Victoria. The project is designed to provide backup electricity to approximately 930 properties in the Corryong and Colac Colac regions during power outages caused by extreme weather or fire events.
The microgrid will feature a 4.9MW/5.1MWh battery energy storage system and diesel generation, utilizing smart grid technology to manage operations. It is capable of running for up to five days without refueling. The initiative is a partnership between AusNet, Mondo, and the Victorian Government, with additional support from the Australian Government Disaster Ready Fund. The system is expected to be operational by the end of 2026 and will not increase electricity costs or require changes to retail arrangements for customers.
