Austentatious returns to the Edinburgh Fringe
The long-running improvised comedy show ‘Austentatious: An Improvised Jane Austen Novel’ has returned to the Edinburgh Fringe. Since its debut in 2012, the production has grown from small pub venues to performing at larger locations such as McEwan Hall.
The show features a cast of actors who improvise a completely new plot and title in each performance based on audience suggestions. Recent performances have included improvised titles such as ‘Heated Gentry’ and ‘Finally Facing My Waterloo’. The production utilizes Regency-era costumes and live piano accompaniment to create a comedic atmosphere centered on the themes of Jane Austen’s works, including marriage and social standing.
Cast members such as Rachel Parris, Graham Dickson, Amy Cooke-Hodgson, and Charlotte Gittins have been noted for their comedic timing and ability to manage the rapid-fire nature of the improvisation.
